Kensington Palace has refrained from making a public statement, but it is understood that communication has been established through private channels.
Previously, Prince Harry and Meghan expressed their wishes for Catherine’s health and well-being. They emphasized the importance of allowing Catherine and her family to heal privately and peacefully.
Catherine herself acknowledged on Friday that the news came as a significant shock. In a brief video message, she revealed that the past few months had been incredibly challenging but noted her improving health and strength with each passing day.
While specific details regarding the cancer have not been disclosed, Kensington Palace has affirmed Catherine’s confidence in her full recovery. Notably, Catherine underwent abdominal surgery in January, though the presence of cancer was not known at the time.
Harry and Meghan made the decision to step down from their roles as senior members of the royal family in January 2020. Subsequently, in June of that year, they relocated to California, citing a desire for space to raise their son, Archie. The family welcomed a second child, Lilibet, the following year.
Not long after, news emerged of King Charles’s cancer diagnosis, prompting Harry to fly to London in early February to be with his father as he commenced treatment. Despite his visit, Harry did not have the opportunity to meet with his brother during this trip.
Following his return, Harry shared in an interview with ABC News his gratitude for the brief time spent with his father in London. He also acknowledged that such health concerns can sometimes bring families closer together.
In response to the news of Catherine’s illness, Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for US President Joe Biden, expressed condolences and wished the British royal a full recovery. Stressing the importance of privacy during such difficult times, Jean-Pierre refrained from further elaboration.
Since Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties, reports suggest a strain in his relationship with his brother. The two have been seldom seen together in recent years. However, in a surprising turn of events in 2022, William, Catherine, Harry, and Meghan made a joint appearance outside Windsor Castle to greet well-wishers following the passing of the Queen.
Earlier this month, both brothers participated in a London awards ceremony honoring their late mother, Princess Diana, albeit from different continents. While William delivered a speech in person at the Diana Legacy Award ceremony, Harry addressed the event remotely from California, following his brother’s departure.
