Tomorrow, Berklee Abu Dhabi Will Host The ‘Harmony Across Cultures Concert’

Following the successful collaboration of the TAWASL Ensemble, comprised of musicians from Berklee Abu Dhabi and Bait Al Oud, at the Jeonju International Sori Festival (JISF) last year and the inaugural exchange concert featuring “Duo Bud” at Abu Dhabi Art, Berklee Abu Dhabi has announced the “Harmony Across Cultures Concert.” This concert serves as the culmination of its cultural exchange program during the holy month of Ramadan.

The event will showcase Korean percussion master Dong-Won Kim, renowned for his expertise in traditional Korean percussion, vocalization, and improvisation. He will be joined by the talented Haegeum musician Kook Jaewhan and Daeguem player LEE Sung Gu. Berklee Abu Dhabi musicians, including Samvel Gasparyan on piano, Haleem Al-Khatib on qanoon, and Salman Baalbaki on Arabic percussion, led by Berklee faculty, along with violinist Yarub Smarait, will also perform.

Scheduled for Thursday, March 28, at 20:00, the concert promises a captivating fusion of Korean and Arabic music.

Lee Yong-hee, Cultural Attache of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the UAE, remarked on the significance of Berklee Abu Dhabi organizing a Ramadan event featuring Korean artists during this sacred month. He highlighted the expanding horizons of cultural exchange between the two countries and encouraged continued collaboration between Korean and TAWASL artists, emphasizing the positive impact on future bilateral cultural exchanges.

In addition to the special Ramadan performances, the Korean Cultural Centre will host workshops on Korean name writing and mother-of-pearl making, as well as prepare Korean food for Iftar. These initiatives aim to facilitate cultural exchange and introduce various aspects of Korean culture to a wider audience.
