Joaquin Phoenix And Lady Gaga Starrer ‘Joker 2’ To Have More Than 15 Cover Songs

Joaquin Phoenix And Lady Gaga Starrer ‘Joker 2’ To Have More Than 15 Cover Songs

The anticipated sequel to Joker is taking an unexpected turn as it transforms into a musical spectacle, featuring the talents of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix. Titled Joker: Folie à Deux, the film will showcase a blend of at least 15 well-known songs reinterpreted for Gotham’s twisted world, alongside some original compositions.

According to a report from a leading publication, Todd Phillips’ upcoming film will predominantly feature familiar tunes, with plans for approximately 15 reimagined covers. Described as a “jukebox musical” by an insider, the soundtrack may include reimaginings of classics like This Is Entertainment from the 1953 show Band Wagon, often associated with Judy Garland.

While the specifics of the original songs remain undisclosed, Warner Bros. declined to comment on their involvement or that of the Academy Award-winning composer of the first film, Hildur Gudnadottir. However, sources suggest that Gudnadottir may still contribute her signature evocative notes to the musical performances.

Plot details for Joker 2 are yet to be unveiled, but the movie is described as a “drama set in and around the world of Arkham Asylum.” With Arthur’s escape from Arkham Asylum in the first film, the sequel is expected to continue where it left off, according to insiders. In addition to Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, the cast includes Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, and Brendan Gleeson. Phillips co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver.

With a reported budget of around $200 million, Joker 2 marks a significant increase from the original film’s budget of approximately $60 million. Scheduled for release on October 4, the film is positioned as a major release for Warner Bros. alongside other highly anticipated titles like Dune 2, Furiosa: a Mad Max Saga by George Miller, Tim Burton’s Breathe in the Void, and the animated version of The Lord Of The Rings: War of The Rings.
