According to The Hill, citing projections from Decision Desk HQ, former US President Donald Trump continues his successful streak in the Republican primaries, securing victories in Louisiana and Illinois on Saturday (local time).
Decision Desk HQ projects that President Joe Biden has emerged victorious in the Louisiana Democratic presidential primary. The latest projections indicate that both Trump and Biden are poised to win with over 88 percent of the votes.
Louisiana boasts a total of 47 delegates. Trump previously carried the state in the 2020 election with 58 percent of the vote, surpassing Biden’s 40 percent. He also emerged victorious in Louisiana during the 2016 election against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Trump’s recent triumph in the Illinois Republican primary further solidifies his position. Notably, Trump has already surpassed the necessary delegate threshold required to secure the Republican nominations, further enhancing his winning momentum within the GOP.
Trump secured the Republican nomination for president on March 13, while Biden clinched the Democratic nomination a day earlier.
The anticipated rematch between Trump and Biden is anticipated to echo the dynamics of the 2020 campaign. However, Trump’s candidacy this time is shadowed by the looming specter of 91 felony charges. Allegations include plotting to overturn his 2020 election defeat, playing a central role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, unlawfully acquiring classified documents from the White House, and concealing hush money payments to an adult film star prior to the 2016 election.
Furthermore, Trump faces a pressing deadline to secure a half-billion-dollar bond to appeal his civil fraud case in New York, as reported by CNN, citing multiple sources. Trump’s legal team acknowledged the challenge of finding an insurance company willing to underwrite his $454 million bond.
Earlier this week, the New York attorney general’s office initiated legal actions in Westchester County, indicating preparations to seize Trump’s golf course and private estate, known as Seven Springs, situated north of Manhattan. This development underscores the mounting legal challenges confronting Trump outside the electoral realm.
